Talks held in Geneva among Iran, Britain, France and Germany have aimed at finding a way to continue nuclear arms talks over Irans long disputed nuclear program. In 2018, the U.S., led by President Donald J. Trump, exited the 2015 nuclear pact while placing sanctions on Iran. Then, Iran violated the pact and rebuilt amounts of enriched uranium for missile construction. Iran has stated that it will not attempt to revive nuclear talks with the U.S. unless Washington recognizes and returns to the 2015 deal which they had left. Talks between outgoing president Joseph Biden and Tehran, Iran based on the 2015 nuclear deal have failed.
With the reelection of former president Donald Trump, Iran doesn’t have much of a chance of restarting talks with the U.S. Trump has been very upfront that he will not deal with Iran, and intends to sanction it as much as he can possibly can. Iran realizes that sanctions from Trump’s America are very dangerous to their nuclear program so it appears they hope to bring in American allies into the fold to help their case with the U.S as they have the final say in this matter. America does not want the Iranians to gain or produce any nuclear weapons as they are dangerous in the wrong hands and could threaten an American ally such as Israel.
Under Trumps administration, Iran will receive absolutely no support from America. Trump will attempt to sanction Iran as much as he can, as he did in his previous term in office in 2016. Iran will attempt to garner support from Western European countries as they have before in hopes of easing tensions and sanctions on themselves from the U.S. Britain, France, and Germany will follow America’s lead on how harsh it will deal with Iran, and will most likely not push for a revival of the nuclear program.
Iran’s nuclear program threatens Americas geopolitics and allies within the region. Israel is threatened by an uptake in Iranian uranium production. A country like Iran, which can be viewed as politically unstable, should not have have a nuclear arms program as viewed by Western countries. America and its Western allies as well as Israel should attempt to stop this revival of the nuclear program as they see it directly and indirectly threatening to their international and national security interests.
