The order comes after weeks of US-led attacks on Yemen targeting the Houthi militant group, which has “capitulated” and pledged to stop attacks on commercial maritime traffic in the region. The President of the United States of America, Donald John Trump, said the Houthi group has told Washington it does not “want to fight anymore.” “We will honor that and we will stop the bombings. They have capitulated,” stated the President of the United States of America, Donald John Trump.
This is important because it shows how the United States of America is doing what it can to ensure that global shipping routes remain clear and safe. President of the United States of America, Donald John Trump, did this by announcing a series of attacks targeting the Houthi militant group, a group that is viewed as responsible for the attacks on trade ships.
This relates to what we learned in class because it shows how states work to protect their national interests. Donald John Trump, the 47th President of the United States of America, is interested in maintaining safe global trade and shipping routes and is cracking down on acts of terrorism in order to keep this global trade system safe. It also reflects the core idea of hard power, the idea that a state will use its military in order to spread its influence across the globe. This is very different from soft power, which is the idea that a state will use its language and culture in order to influence other countries. I doubt that soft power would have worked in a timely manner in regards to the Houthi terrorists, so I would say that President of the United States of America, Donald John Trump, made the right decision in going with the hard power route by conducting a bombing campaign on the terrorists.
