Qatar’s prime minister met with U.S. President Trump about Israel’s strike on Doha-Qatar’s capital city. The strike that occurred Tuesday, killed a Qatari security official and 5 Hamas members discussing Trump’s new deal to end the Gaza war. President Trump announced that he was “very unhappy” about Israel’s strike. The strike seemed like it was done to put an end to the ceasefire talks according to the article. The US is allies with Israel and the US considers Qatar a “strong gulf ally”. The relationship between the US and Qatar is unsure due to this strike on Doha and other strikes. Qatar is planning on continuing the conversation with U.S. President Trump about negotiations to end the Gaza war. The U.S. is now currently joining other U.N. member states criticizing Israel for their strike on Doha. The U.S. secretary of state will be attending an upcoming UN summit, on which numerous western countries plan to recognize Palestine as a state. The U.N. is endorsing a revival of the “two state system”. The U.S. will not support Palestine because they support the organization Hamas.

I believe that Israel’s recent strike will hurt its relationship with the U.S. after being long time allies with the U.S. Peace will not be in Israel’s mind unless Hamas is destroyed. In my opinion, Israel only attacked Doha because it had Hamas members there. States in the region might not allow for any Hamas members to be within their borders. This is because they do not want the sovereignty of their state to be violated, such as Qatar. Negotiations on ending the Gaza war between Palestine and Israel seem to be more in question.

The realization that Palestine is possibly gaining more international recognition as an official state and international support reflects the class topic of how a stateless nation turns into a state. Right now, Palestine is seen as a non-recognized state at the current moment. If Palestine gains the title of a state, it can use that newly acquired sovereignty to protect Palestinian people, but set up a separate, non Hamas military to defend Palestine.
