The Israeli military has launched strikes in Gaza City, killing 49 at least. These strikes have been aimed at public facilities, residential buildings, and other structures that have been turned by the U.N. into shelters. Bombs from Israeli fighter jets were dropped every 10 to 15 minutes, not allowing time for those there to evacuate safely. 6000 additional Palestinians have been displaced due to the rapid succession of strikes. Some say Israel is deliberately striking places with high concentrations of displaced families. About 900,000 still reside in Gaza City. Despite this, many residents of Gaza City are staying or returning from the camp of al-Mawasi. Many chose to return to Gaza City. The al-Mawasi and Deir el-Balah shelters don’t have enough resources, they are too cramped, people lack basic services and shelter, the cost of staying was too high, and finally, Israel has been frequently strikes these shelters. While Israel is helping out by backing GHF aid sites, they are being criticized by many governments and human rights groups after 850 were shot near the sites. Reverse displacement is occurring, with many returning back north to Gaza City saying that they would rather risk it there. Israel has been striking high buildings with the claim that Hamas is using them with no evidence. Buildings being used a charging stations, have been targeted. Many have been killed seeking aid. The death toll continues to rise, with the starvation toll increasing to 420 since the war.
These strikes will call in for other members of the U.N. to step in and to basically tell Israel they have to stop attacking civilians. Israel has been targeting places that have been providing shelter and safety for Palestinians who need protection. Israel said they were going to target Hamas, they are not upholding their statement in my opinion. If they were wanting to destroy Hamas, I think that Israel wouldn’t send Targeting buildings without evidence should not be allowed. Attacks such as these could convince neighboring states to get involved in the Gaza War.
The bombing by Israel on the Gaza strip relates to the theme of sovereignty. Palestine, at the time of writing this post, is just a nation because it is not recognized by the U.N.. This means that Palestine cannot protect themselves, due to them not having control over their territory. The idea of Coercion might be taking effect. Israel doesn’t seem to be just taking out Hamas, they are destroying Palestine. If this is the case, Israel could try to take over by dominating Palestine.
