Fast forward to today, with the help of Hezbollah, Iran, and Russia, the Syrian government is increasingly closer to winning the war. Now that the war could potentially come to an end, the issue of peace talks is being brought up by the United Nations. One of the main objectives in the talks was to create de-escalation zones and ceasefires to try and halt some of the casualties and provide safe havens for the Syrian civilians. The flaw in this these prepositions is that the areas could become potential hubs for terrorist organizations in the region (such as Daesh and Al-Qaeda). Similarly, both the FSA and the Syrian government believe that the de-escalation zones could be a sort of trap in which the opposing side would acquire control of the area, essentially gaining more territory. The biggest issue, however, is what will the political situation will resemble once the war comes to a finish. The FSA demands to see Assad brought down from power, yet it seems like he is not going anywhere, thanks to his position in the war and his foreign allies. Nevertheless, it might be possible for Assad to win back all of Syria, thanks to a Russian narrative that illustrates the war as a struggle against terrorism, as opposed to the government versus the people.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
In 2011, Syria fell victim to a civil war between the government, led by President Bashar Al-Assad, and the Free Syrian Army (FSA).
