The Israel-Palestine conflict is not a new one; ever since the 1940s the two groups have been at odds. However, in recent times, the fighting has received an increasing level of international attention, as the media has been covering it more and more. It seems as if everyday now there are more civilians killed by the IDF; another Palestinian man was killed by gunfire in the occupied West Bank, marking the forth Palestinian killed in 24 hours. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many justify these killings by Israel as necessary; afterall, Israel is the lone Jewish state in the region, and even the whole world. With so much disdain from its regional neighbors, many people believe this heightened aggression from Israel is merely self defense. But when has killing innocent civilians ever been self defense? Close to an Israeli checkpoint, Israeli forces stationed at the checkpoint fired live bullets at a Palestinian man’s car, who was with his wife and children. The man, identified as Alaa Ghayatha from the village of Nahalin, was shot in the abdomen. Another man got out of his car to help the injured man, and was also shot. The IDF justified these killings, saying that Palestinians were throwing rocks at their trucks. Ridiculous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If any other country committed similar travesties, they would face immediate pressure and repercussions from the international community; however, Israel continues to get off blame free. It is not like this is an isolated incident either. Similar shootings happen very frequently, and there is always some outrage, but never any consequences. I say that it is due time that Israel was held to the same standards as other first world countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This being said, Palestine is by no means blame free. Palestine soldiers and terrorist alike commit many wrongs against Israel, and definitely pay back much of what they receive. It is time for both countries to seek a peaceful solution, and for Israel to face consequences for its actions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
