The United States government has just agreed to sell Saudi Arabia Nuclear Power plant technology according to a leaked document. The document included several signatures by Energy Department secretary Rick Perry. There is also word that the Saudi Arabia will be constructing two power plants as part of this nuclear deal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Department of Energy\u2019s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) said that the Saudi Arabian companies requested that the document to be kept secret from the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Several lawmakers are worried that the selling of the nuclear technology could lead to an arms race in the Middle East. Saudi Prince Salman said that he would engage in nuclear arms production if long-time rival Iran were to do it first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Much of the opposition for the Nuclear Power deal arose after the death of Jamal Khashoggi, who was killed by the Saudi Arabian government last October. Public support and trust for the Monarchy have diminished since then, which has come at an inopportune time for Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Several congresspeople have spoken against the secrecy of the document. Representative Brad Sherman requested Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to release the company names that are affiliated with the nuclear deal. Pompeo replied that he would look into it. He added that the nuclear deal will have regulations in place to ensure the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, which was the primary concern of the lawmakers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Additionally, democratic house members claimed that some of the top aids at the White House made deals with an organization known as IP3 International to construct nuclear reactors in many countries within the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
