The other oil field is still under renovation and will be for about 6 more days. When that oil field is back to being opporational then their fuel supply will go up by about 25%. The sanctions that the US has placed on Iran has had a big effect on Syria because Iran has been providing Syria with crude oil throughout the 9 year civil war. Another way that Syria was able to get themselves fuel was through smuggling from Lebanon. However Lebanon’s economy has gotten so bad that the Beirut authorities have controlled the border and prevented Lebanese people from smuggling fuel into Syria.

Tomeh had an interview with state TV and said “American sanctions have deprived us from importing enough for our oil needs.” US sanctions have only had a small part to blame for Syria’s economic downfall. The Original intent of these sanctions was to keep the Syrian government from continuing it’s illegal and horrible treatment of their citizens. However the result has been more detrimental, more than 80% of Syrians are living in poverty and the inability for Syria to obtain and trade oil is making it even harder for their economy to gain anything at all. It appears that a food shortage is on the horizon for Syria and that could be very detrimental to Syria and its people. Despite all that is going wrong for Syria right now Tomeh is very optimistic about Syria’s future.”Crisis is about to end” Tomeh said, “The war is not over and the economic war is at its most intense.”

https://apnews.com/ef4e88f6d5c2e03c49d206eef8a2ec93 Syrian Oil Minister Bassam Tomeh is placing the blame for Syria’s fuel crisis on The United States and their allies due to sanctions that they have placed to keep Syria from trading for oil.The US has also placed troops along with assistance from Syrian Kurdish fighters to control one of Syria’s 2 oil fields.
