Video clips on social media have shown people in Egypt holding banners and chanting slogans calling on Egyptian President Abdel Fatah el-Sisi to step down. There are police officers being injured, cars being damaged, and buildings being set on fire.

It all started when former Egyptian army contractor Mohamed Ali called for anti-government protests on September 20 to “commemorate a year since similar demonstrations were launched,” in egypt. In response to President Abdel Fatah el-Sisi being demanded to step down, authorities launched the “biggest crackdown” under el-Sisi’s rule, collecting up more than 2,300 people. They have arrested many people including very popular and well known political figures and activists.

Ali lives in Spain all by himself to try and keep safe. He said he had expected this much of a strong response to his calls for demonstrations against the government and over deteriorating living conditions. He said in an interview, “If five million people took to the streets, no one would be arrested at all.” and then continued to talk about how it was easy for the regime to arrest them last year because they all returned to their homes immediately.

Back in 2013 Egypt outlawed all unauthorized demonstrations which led to the overthrow of president Mohamed Morsi. And since then authorities in Egypt have arrested thousands and thousands of people. A “nationwide crackdown” intensified after el-Sisi was first elected in 2014.

I think that this is a really big turning point for Egypt, and that people are more angry than ever. There’s a lot of protests going on in the world right now and people are finally starting to stand up for what they believe in and I don’t think any form or government knows how to handle people taking a stand. If the people in Egypt aren’t happy with what their government is doing, then they have every right to protest it and should continue until their voices are heard, but they need to make sure they are peaceful protests.

Anti government protest in Egypt Egypt is currently experiencing Riots and protests just like the United States is, but for different reasons.
