Also, with a lack of seriousness when the pandemic started and limited access to resources, Somalia may be facing this pandemic a lot longer than the rest of the world. The country’s population continues to not give the virus credit as many of them don’t wear masks nor participate in proper social distancing. With a lack of equipment for testing and keeping hospital staff safe, COVID-19 continues to spread throughout the country and many of the cases go undocumented. These undocumented cases have made it extremely hard to inform the public of just how serious this situation is. All of this along with other major divides and conflicts within Somalia make the light at the end of the tunnel very dim for this country. Somalia’s goal now is to obtain a vaccine for the country, but the issue with this will be convincing its population to actually take it.

I believe that some of the more wealthy countries should try to help Somalia in this situation, but I also understand that ultimately it would most likely just be a burden for other countries to get involved. Most countries would not directly benefit from helping Somalia, therefore they will most likely have to struggle for a while until they are able to administer the vaccine in their country. However, it seems that they are in the same boat as many other third world countries in their region who will also face this same struggle going into this new year.

From a realist perspective, none of the world powers are likely to help Somalia in their time of crisis because of the issues being faced worldwide against COVID-19 as the vaccine is being administered, and it will not directly in their interest. Once many of the first world countries get the vaccine, they may change their approach and help countries like Somalia in order to bring the world out of this pandemic.

Link to article- https://apnews.com/article/coronavirus-pandemic-africa-somalia-coronavirus-vaccine-mogadishu-26e4a6d8a97e53cd9d245e45ff2e3daf As a less wealthy country, Somalia does not have the same access to the COVID-19 vaccine as many other countries do.
