The Abraham Accords is a joint statement between the US, Israeli, and the UAE dedicated to bringing peace to the Middle East.

The Popular Congress Party of Sudan had originally announced that Sudan did not have to accept the deal.

Sudan’s involvement comes two months after President Trump announced that Sudan would begin to normalize relations with Israel and one month since Trump removed Sudan from the US list of state sponsored terrorists.

Sudan is the latest country to join the list of those which have recently normalized relations with Israel. Many of these states chose to do so at the direct influence of President Trump, although these countries have little to no direct influence regarding the Arab-Israeli conflict. That being said, Palestine relies on its fellow Arab nations for political support, and these recent recognitions strengthen Israel’s political leverage.

While Mnuchin was in Sudan, he also discussed how the US could help the Sudanese economy. Among other woes, Sudan has seen a sharp inflation rate of 200% in the last year. By signing the Accord, Sudan gains access to the World Bank, which is a vital resource in paying off its debt and stabilizing its economy.

The US’s actions to get countries to normalize relations with Israel can be seen through the liberal perspective. As the US becomes more energy independent, its national interest is shifting out of the Middle East. The country previously maintained a large military presence in the region, to support its oil supply. Now, as the US begins to pull out of the region, it wants to establish Israel as a new leading power so that there isn’t a power vacuum. This is not in the direct national interest in the country, but for the good of the region, so it can be seen as supporting the liberal theory.

Link to article: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/1/6/sudan-says-it-signed-abraham-accords-with-us It was announced Wednesday that Justice Minister Nasredeen Abdulbari of Sudan recently signed the Abraham Accords while US official Steven Mnuchin was visiting the country.
