It was announced on Monday that the UK would drastically reduce funding. The conflict, being called the worst humanitarian crisis, is only going to get worse. Specifically, the UK said they would give eighty seven million pounds down from their number from last year of two hundred-fourteen million pounds. This drastic decline in funding has been cited as a direct result of the global pandemic. The decreased funding will directly affect two-thirds of the Yemen population- roughly twenty million people. This hardship is just another in the most recent tragedies in Yemen, among their lack of a health care system and two million malnourished children. I think that this decline in budgetary support to Yemen is a tragedy in its own right. The events that the Yemeni people have gone through, including a civil war, insufficient food supplies and constant fear, have no doubt left them scarred and unhealthy. It is very sad to see that the UK has diminished their monetary support to the humanitarian crisis and at such a heavy decrease, numbers wise. Though it is valid that monetary excess is sparse, I think that there is a lack of concern for the Yemeni people. I think that there are many problems and crises these days that we are desensitized to. It makes things like the Yemen crisis less significant to people and easily forgotten. I think that we can separate ourselves from it with no regard to the suffering the people face. With respect to international relations, I think that the disregard of Yemen is a perfect example of the failure of International institutions. Though it would be nice if there were just a few organizations that dealt with cases like this, that is sadly unrealistic. The UN is a good example of the lack of true impact from an international institution. Though it is part of its purpose to help when humanitarian crises arise, it has failed to help in many situations. The UN may be helping some but not much has actually changed for the Yemeni population.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-middle-east-56242610 The conflict torn Yemen suffers yet another blow, this time at the hands of the United Kingdom.
