The relationship between the two has been strained recently but the Egyptian government is seeking to rebuild it in an effort to secure the Sinai Peninsula, though Hamas is considered by many to be a terrorist group and among its goals is the destruction of the Israeli state. This area of land has been fought over by the Israelis and other Middle Eastern nations and borders Israel and the Suez Canal. The northern portion of the peninsula has been attacked by the Islamic State numerous times over the past two years. The announcement that a two state solution will no longer be sought after has caused many to reevaluate relations with Palestine as they believe it could cause a Palestinian refugee crisis, end with human rights violations, and give Israelis more control over Palestinian land, control they have been seeking for 70 years but have recently made efforts to obtain with settlement building. Many Muslim nations are concerned that this, coupled with the proposed moving of the American Embassy to Jerusalem, would negatively impact Muslims and are opposed to this action. Though a two state solution lost any hope of ever working many years ago and is about as likely as America returning all of its lands to Native Americans and the shift in policy to a more realistic approach after decades of an ineffective and idealistic one is welcomed by many, the announcement could have been better and done in a way that would not cause tensions to rise throughout the Middle East<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Following the recent announcement that the United States will no longer be seeking a two state solution to resolve the Israel- Palestine conflict, many Middle Eastern alliances have begun to be reevaluated and reconsidered, notably, that between Egypt and Hamas.
