An Israeli commercial ship was reported to have been attacked off the United Arab Emirates (UAE) coast in the Persian Gulf. According to an Israeli television channel, there were no casualties or injuries and the ship was able to continue its course; the damage was described as being limited. There has also been blame being placed on Iran for these events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Interestingly, officials in Israel\u2019s Prime Minister’s office and Israel’s defense ministry declined to comment. There was also no confirmation from the UAE of these events. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations does have investigations ongoing. This is the third attack on an Israeli cargo ship to take place in about a month and a half and has led Israel to blame Iran.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The reason this needs to be monitored is because recently Iran accused Israel of damaging a nuclear site. Although a retaliation from Iran isn\u2019t confirmed and this may not have been the case here, Israel was quick to blame Iran. This demonstrates to the international community that these two countries’ relationships are increasingly strained and hostile. This situation is likely even more contentious at the moment as the United States tries to reinstate the Iran nuclear pact of 2015 that would stifle Iran further. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In connection to class, this conflict between Israel and Iran is a conflict of interests more than a conflict of ideas. This is because it is a conflict mostly centered around Iran\u2019s desire for nuclear weapons and Israel’s desire for them not to have nuclear weapons. The reason Israel doesn\u2019t want Iran to develop nuclear weapons is they have a historically bad relationship and of course does not want nuclear war in the region.
