There has been increased tension recently between the countries over ownership and gas deposits, specifically in Jubbaland. The Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it “looks forward to further normalization of relations by the Somali authorities including with regard to trade, communication, transportation, people-to-people relations and cultural exchanges,”. The leaders of Somalia hope to “normalize” relations between the countries and continue to make efforts to further unionize and stabilize the region.

The region where Somalia and Kenya lies faces a lot of political unrest and conflict. There is a fair amount of combat, political conflict, famine, humanitarian crises, etc. The further unification of the area and cooperation between states could potentially bring more stability and peace to the region and help the citizens live a less hectic and chaotic life. The cooperation between governments shows steps in the right direction. There is also terrorism in this region by extremeist groups, that hopefully could decline if governmetns were to work together in their efforts to dismantle them.

The increased stability of a region and the world based on trade relations and cooperation in general is heavily supported by liberal ideology. In fact, one of the main pillars of the belief system states that if there is increased trade between countries there is guaranteed more peace and unity on the global scale. The idea is that if countries have personal stakes in other countries’ success, then they are less likely to create conflict or act aggressively towards those other countries. Therefore more tarde, more peace. This could be the truth when it comes to Kenya and Somalia’s new agreements.

https://www.reuters.com/world/africa/somalia-restoring-diplomatic-ties-with-kenya-after-nearly-six-months-2021-05-06/ Somalia has announced that they are restoring diplomatic ties with Kenya after nearly six months of not associating with the country following allegations of meddling in politics.
