The new leader, Al-Sadr, would like to form a majority government. Analysts say that this government would turn away from the “Ethno-Sectarian power sharing arrangement” that was created after the United States led invasion in two thousand three. Obviously, it is not only analysts that feel that this proposal of a new government is a bad idea, as there have been attacks on the Iraqi capital that have left people injured. The main reason for this denial of a new form of government is due to the fact that it neglects Shia ideology and the Shia believers are not fond of this.

This article is important because it shows how a shift in government can create controversy that maybe the people of a country would not expect. The parties in Iraq are based off religion, so that could be a reason why a governing issue neglecting a party can be more controversial than one in the United States, as our parties are not based off one’s religious beliefs. Electing a new leader is something that should be new and good for change for the country, not something that is going to cause the country to spiral downhill. However, this can be the case sometimes as some people can be very stubborn in abiding to new change.

This article relates to what we discuss in class through foreign policy because the way politicians govern in various foreign countries can be very different from how it happens in the United States. The United States is the land of the people, while we take this for granted sometimes when you get to see another perspective and how their government is being handled, whether that be worse or better.

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/1/18/iraq-faces-growing-violence-as-political-rift-deepens The government in Iraq has been a topic of discussion for some time between its people and political leaders.
