This article outlines that a group ISIS gunmen attacked an army barracks which is close to Baghdad early Friday, killing 11 soldiers as they slept. 100 militants from the ISIS group carried out a complex attack on Syria’s largest prison holding suspected extremists and many ISIS members when they killed the 11 soldiers. The Associated Press said “ISIS militants broke into the barracks at 3 a.m. local time and shot dead the soldiers, before fleeing.” The rank of lieutenant and 10 soldiers were killed in there sleep when the attack broke out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is important because\u00a0in recent months, ISIS sleeper cells have become more active in both countries, claiming attacks that killed scores of Iraqis and Syrians. For Isis has been multiple prison break through the last 5 years or so to help there people escape. In Syria, more than 100 ISIS fighters using heavy machine guns and vehicles rigged with explosives attacked the Gweiran Prison in the northeastern city of Hassakeh where some 3,000 suspected ISIS militants are being held. ISIS attacks have been on the rise in recent months in both Iraq and neighboring Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This relates to what we been talking about in class that the middle east is still not safe at all while they are currently trying to be in a rebuilding stage. ISIS was largely defeated in Iraq in 2017, and in Syria in 2019, although it remains active in many areas in hideouts. This has put forces in both countries on high alert and making other countries at the the question: do we need to help them out? Like how the U.S.-allied Kurdish authorities in control of eastern and northeastern Syria, with a small presence of several hundred American forces still deployed there to help intervene if needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
