France was once a ruling colonial power in that country which moved into partnership. But over the years there has been a growing divide between the two as the French operation: Operation Barkhane was being disliked more and more by the Malian people. The major catalyst of the withdrawal was the 2020 coup that had taken place, and overthrew the government. A second coup was then staged, and France’s response was to withdraw support from the front heei o-insurgency force. This causes fierce diplomatic battle with AMli accusing farance of training terrorists. This led to AMli hiring the infamous Wagner group which led to the overall withdrawal of French support. This is a major shift as the last of the major colonial powers is now moving these shifts away as they see the African regions as a lost cause.

My take on this article is that the French had experienced what America experienced in Afghanistan. Albeit on a smaller scale the French learned the same lessons the Amecia did. As both countries poured in trropsa dnmoent into territories thousands of miles away. This led to a question of what the actual end goal was. With the final withdrawal of both forces it showed that no one force can overtoun shatterbelt by itself. As all the progress the french and Americans bukit get washed away in matter weeks by unstable insurgents and governments who have cost taxpayers billions. The realization is why help the hopeless, and rather allocate that time and money on internal issues and other profitable things.

This topic relates to class with the ICJ and other NGOs. With the nasty ending to the Mali and French cooperation there could be room for one to bring there other to an international court. While weak in nature it could help set new standards for how military and other relations are conducted in that region. It also fulfills the requirement of having two countries apart of the case if it happened. If things could not be peacefully resolved and things went really south with malio an france, to the point of war then the UN security council could be called in very esteem cases. In this case they could possibly send Peacekeepers as a last resort to bring the tensions and harbor some treaty.

Link to article: https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2022/3/3/what-to-make-of-the-french-exit-from-mali The Official departure of France from Mali has taken place.
