A reported drone and rocket strike has hit an oil depot in Jeddah along with other oil refiners in the kingdom. Saudi Arabia and Yemen have been locked in back and forth combat ever since 2014. The Saudia have been shamed for carrying out multiple air raids and other attacks on or close to civilian targets. The conflict began when Houthis rebels captured the capital Sana’a. Reports have been given out on new military operations on emn to stop attacks against oil facilities as well as protect global energy resources. This attack is not the fist as the Houthis have shelled the kingdom with motors, rockets, and drone strikes for years now. An attack in 2020 cost Saudi aramco $1.5 million.

My take on this article is that this unstable country in the shatterbelt is trying to fight for some power in that region. The possible hope is to tire Saudi Arabia so much into giving in and letting them take or even get offered some type of deal to stop the fighting. As one of the most important oil exporters in the world Saudi Arabia holds a lot of power and their neighboring countries liek Yemen are jealous of the profits. With the natural gas/oil market already under pressure, counties such as Saudi Arabia have been stepping up. With continued reliance on them things such as the attack on oil refiners is going to attract more attention from the international community which might cause intervention.

This relates back to class with liberal theory of complex interdependence. As stated earlier, the world community has been all been affected by global pandemic and now the war on Ukraine. This has led to many realizing the complex interdependence each state has. The days of isolation are non-existent in this day and age as counties now trade with one another for survival of their state. With one country out of the trade loop it shows the holes left behind. This is then filled by other counters who feed the demand. With this idea established things such as the downswing of refineries in saudi arabia by the yemen rebels might leave holes in world trade leaving demand unfilled causing counties to hurt from it.

link to article: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/3/25/saudi-aramco-jeddah-storage-facility-hit-by-attack Another serosius attack has just been confirmed by Yemen’s Houthi rebels.
