The group, Human Rights Watch, wants the results of the autopsy and the photos of Ayman Hadhood’s body to be released to the public. Also for the forensic experts on the case should be independent experts. The experts should be able to find out if while in custody Hadhood was tortured. Joe Stork, deputy Middle East and North Africa director at Human Rights Watch, stated “Clearly the egyptian authorities committed grave abuses against hadhoud by subjecting him to a prolonged enforced disappearance.” Hadhoud had been detained since february 6th due to the attempted break in of an apartment and “irresponsible behavior”. He was then pronounced dead at the government-run abbasiya mental health hospital in cairo.

I believe that the independent investigation of this case should happen. It is clear that there was some type of corruption that happened in this case and it’s proceedings. There should be outside help that comes in. Especially since torture and abuse by police are very common in egypt. Since this in not even the first public torture and possible killing by the police force. In 2016 when an italian doctoral student was supposedly egyptian police there should have definitely been an outside investigation done by private investigators or privately owned organizations. If anything there should be some sort of police reform put in place so that these killings and torturings are lessened in the coming years.

This relates to our class because of how this affects Egypts social image. It is in there national interest to have some type of reform put in place by the government in Cairo. Also since it was an Economic researcher, who criticized the government of egypt it is very suspicious that he would wound up dead in recent months. Also with the ruling that there was no torture of any sorts made by an Egyptian prosecutor, but the brother of the victim said that there were obvious bruises on the body when he identified the victim. It is now in Egypts national interest to keep a semi clean image

https://apnews.com/article/business-africa-egypt-cairo-forensics-a4b7a67a628bfac02778dc3c47118aec One of the leading human rights advocacy groups urges Egyptian authorities to release an autopsy report and start an investigation on the suspicious death of an economic researcher detained two months ago.
