The conflict stems from the Israel and Palestine conflict that has been raging on and off for over 40 years. However recently there have been rockets and artillery shells fired from the Lebanon border at Israel. Lebanon has reported that there were no casualties or damages. Israel states that this is due to the 40 flair bombs that were launched to counter this action. United Nations officials are already investigating the situation. The attacks from Lebanon have been pinned on Palestinian extremist groups operating within the Lebanon border, potentially acting to start a conflict between Israel and Lebanon. These attacks are significant because of the larger conflict that is playing out between Israel and Palestine. Recently tensions have flared due to these recent attacks and other attacks on border regions of Israel. However this is not abnormal for Israel and Palestinian because of a conflict that has been active for several decades. Should the rockets have landed and Lebanon been the country to fire and not rebel extremist from Palestine then it could have sunk Israel deeper into the territory war it is already a part of. This attack is significant however because it may signal a new attack strategy from Palestine where they are attempting to raise tensions between Israel and neighboring countries in an effort to strain their defensive capabilities and may open Israel up to attack. However Lebanon has made it clear to Israel and the United Nations that they have no desire to harbor Palestinian extremist groups. For the Israeli people these attacks are nothing new and Israel understands that Palestine is trying increasingly more desperate with their tactics.
