Current Prime Minister Bennett has a tumultuous political situation surrounding his government. His party no longer holds the majority in parliament and political disagreements within his party are threatening its unity. A construction disagreement with the United States about development on the West Bank has soured U.S.-Israeli relations and Palestinian terrorist attacks have ravaged through Israel, weakening confidence in Bennett’s administration. Former Prime Minister Netanyahu is contemplating proposing a motion in parliament that would oust the Bennett administration, which would prompt a series of new elections. A survey was issued last month that reported only 30% of Israeli citizens believed the government through the end of the year. An Islamic coalition member of the party has recently boycotted the activities of Bennett’s party due to disputes over holy site violence.

Tensions in Israel continue to rise, which is a detriment to the Russo-Ukrainian war, for Israel served as a liason, speaking to both Russia and Ukraine. I personally don’t believe that Bennett’s administration will last much longer. His party is formed of a too diverse set of views to last much longer. However, Netanyahu seems to be too unpopular to regain control in too strong of a manner. While the U.S. is having a disagreement with Israel, I strongly feel that this is a temporary rift in the relationship between the two countries. Furthermore, I believe the state of Israel will remain strong enough to still stand securely against the violence in the Middle East. Political instability can be common in countries with coalitions such as Israel; forming alliances between differing political opinions can often lead to instability at times.

Similar to what was discussed in class, Israel is strengthened by its legalistic legitimacy. There are, however, disputed areas surrounding the state, jeopardizing the power of the state. Also, the deep historic core of the country has influenced lots of conflict around the area, specifically regarding religion. Israel is a smaller country and is more centralized than countries such as the United States. It will be fascinating to see how potential changes in Israel’s administration affect relations with the U.S. As discussed in class, consistency is appreciated in International Relations, allowing for relationships to be developed and more analysis of the other state’s government to take place.

Link to article: https://apnews.com/article/middle-east-jerusalem-elections-israel-west-bank-5759a51f1d626cb628b575b6e5bb0768 Political tensions in Israel have led to unrest and political uncertainty in the Middle Eastern country.
