Israel recently launched an invasion on the city of Jenin as well as an invasion of the blockaded Gaza strip. This was home to two palestinian refugee camps and killed 6 along with 30 wounded as tensions continue to rise between palestine and israel. The violence used against the palestinians was \u201crioters\u201d that had gathered next to the fence that separates Gaza from Israel, and that \u201ca number of explosive devices were activated by the rioters\u201d. The reason for the riots was due to israel keeping the Beit Hanoun or Erez crossing closed following an eruption of border protests and a \u201csecurity assessment\u201d by defense officials. The palestinian protests are prompting Israel to keep the border closed due to continuous violent protests along the border. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This violence and protest that are causing borders to be closed down are affecting the everyday person’s life. A construction worker told reporters \u201cClosing Erez costs my family and me our food and living expenses\u00a8 he gave only his first name for fear of reprisal from the Israeli authorities. This whole situation is a major problem and if tensions keep continuing to rise then it will put a lot of bordering counties as well as counties with alliances in an interesting spot. The main goal here in my opinion should be to defuse the border situation and if the Israeli government is able to defuse the situation without more use of gunfire or any weapon then we might be able to see less violent protests where lives are put in danger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This relates to international relations and what we’ve been talking about during class because it puts the United States in a very interesting and odd position. The US supports Israel and does not recognize Palestine as a country so if these tensions continue to rise will the U.S continue to supply Israel with supplies or do they deploy troops?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
