Hezbollah are a political group who are the dominant force in southern Lebanon whilst being backed up by Iran and are allies with the terrorist group, Hamas. Villages and cities are dealing with fallout and the turbulence that is coming from the war. It has had such an impact that a christian village, Rmeich, has considered getting ready for war. Rmeich sits just around 124 miles away from the war. Those who remain in the village are trying to preserve some kind of normalcy, mainly by holding mass three times a day. It is unclear as to what might happen and how dangerous it is, but the village’s priest said “I won’t say we’re feeling safe but the situation is stable”.

This is important information to know even though it is not the biggest piece of news coming from the war. Understanding how a group of people act in their situation can help us learn and make us more wise. This is because their actions indicate what they are dealing with which adds some kind of connection to other human beings whether it is emotionally or physically. I feel there is a sense of humanity gained between us after that realization. The impacts that can come from this are if a state recognizes a village like Rmeich. This in turn shows if Rmeich is attacked, it would escalate the war even further.

Using what we have learned in class, I would say this situation could be similar to alliances and/or fluidity of alliances. An alliance is a relationship based on interests while fluidity of alliances is the same thing but is disbanded when a state feels they are not being benefited. At the current moment, this village has not made allies with either side but they still have the time to do so. If they were to do so with either Israel or Hezbollah, it would be for the safety and survival of the village. I don’t think it matters who they align with because both groups ultimately want to be the last surviving in the end. If the village does make an alliance, it could help a certain side by providing land and maybe some soldiers.

Link To Article: https://www.aljazeera.com/gallery/2023/11/2/amid-hezbollah-israel-clashes-christian-village-in-lebanon-plans-for-war In the midst of the main war between Israel and Palestine, Israel are fighting in another battle with a Lebanese Shia group, Hezbollah.
