Israel’s bombing campaign on the extremely densely populated city of Gaza has killed well over 10,000 palestinians. Ireland, who rarely meddles in middle eastern affairs, has voiced grand support for Palestine and has sent a total of 29 million euros (31.5 million USD) in aid packages to the city of Gaza. Ireland has also called for a ceasefire and called Israel’s attack on Palestine “unprecedented” with the motivation of “desire for the destruction of Gaza”. Ireland has also blocked, banned, and criminalized any trade or receiving of goods from Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I think that Israel is struggling for allies because of its lethality against palestine and it’s citizens. Israel was attacked by Hamas in october of this year and i feel like Israel was “looking for a reason” to attack Palestine. Israel and Palestine have always had incredibly high tensions and with the attack in october it gave Israel the ground it needed to stage an attack on Palestine without being blamed. I don’t feel like Israel has taken it too far with the bombing of citizens. If Palestine and Hamas are allowed to attack citizens and commit acts of terror why isn’t Israel? Moreover, the United States needs to completely leave the situation, being associated with either Israel or Palestine in this conflict is a losing standpoint as they are both committing war crimes. The United States is also giving Ukraine incredible amounts of support and cannot afford to sponsor another country in war. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In class we talk about how choosing a side, even without financially or militarily supporting that side, can have grave diplomatic impacts. Aligning yourself with one country or another is a reflection of your values and goals as a nation, so the United States aligning itself with Israel while Israel is killing 10s of thousands of citizens is not going to help the diplomatic relations of the United States.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
