The bombing of a Belgian development agency building in Gaza City has led to the summoning of the Israeli ambassador by Belgium on the issue of rebuilding and compensation. The Belgian Ministry for Development Cooperation stated that the building was supposed to be evacuated and that they\u2019re not aware of any civilian casualties at this time. The Belgian foreign ministry suspected that the bombing had occurred on Wednesday and criticized Israel\u2019s handling of the conflict, calling for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza. Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib posted a statement claiming that the attacks on civilian infrastructure were a breach of the principles of humanitarian law. Compensation for the damaged development agency that is financed by the EU will be on the agenda of the next European consultation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belgium’s criticism of Israel\u2019s handling of the conflict showcases that many countries are unhappy about the war right now, specifically of the humanitarian concerns Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib expressed. I think the lasting impact of the bombing of the Belgian development agency will be a strained relationship between Belgium and Israel which may end up hurting both countries’ trade, as they have many trade relations with one another. The bombing also signifies the further destruction of Gaza which will take many years to be reconstructed and for the communities to heal. The talk of who will be responsible for compensation at the European consultation may also bring up other issues of whether Israel will pay for the embassy buildings and other international buildings that have been damaged in Gaza as a result of the war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bombing of a Belgian development in Gaza City shows how rapidly the Israel-Palestine war is expanding from a state and regional scope to more of a global scope. According to conflict classifications, the Israel-Palestine war is considered an armed conflict of interest because both Israel and Palestine want the territory, and a conflict of ideas because of the difference in religion (Judaism and Muslim) and beliefs. The conflict is viewed by Israel as defensive on their side and offensive from the Hamas side because they were the first to launch the attack. However, Hamas views the conflict as defensive and preventive because of the issues that have been occurring in Palestine that led up to the attack. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
