The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) along with the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) called for $4.1 billion in aid for displaced Sudanese people due to the internal war. This war broke out in April of 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) due to a dispute over the claims to the country. The war broke out due to the RSF attacking government sites. This sparked a war that has led to over half of the population, over 25 million people, needing humanitarian aid. On top of this, over 1.5 million Sudanese people have fled past Sudan’s borders to escape the conflict. The UN has reacted to the conflict, stating the demand for relief for Sudan’s people, who have greatly been impacted as this is the largest current internal conflict. The country is currently in shambles; over two-thirds of the country lacking healthcare and over 19 million children being taken out of school. The UN is looking for aid and in short time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The war’s continuation and negative impacts are destroying the state of Sudan increasingly as time goes on. The war has remained internal and due to the motivations will likely stay that way, however, is impacting areas around it and is leading to concerns for the nations looking to provide worldwide stability. The war broke out due to disputes in ideologies and beliefs as to how the country should be run and has led to two sides looking to place themselves as the lone government and military body in Sudan. Due to this, there is no reason why either side would want to target anywhere outside of the country borders. Despite this, nearby countries are being negatively impacted due to immigrants fleeing the country, many of which bringing minimal valuables with them. This is leading to these countries having the responsibility of taking care of these people, which is a problem none of these states want. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When looking into the conflict that has led to the necessity of humanitarian aid, it is evident that a local conflict is at hand. It is an internal conflict fought between two militaries, coinciding with the fact that it has been largely a conventional war despite the initial attacks by the RSF. Immediately, the war was a total war due to the RSF goal being nothing short of taking control over the country and everything in it. The RSF took a strong offensive, matching the defensive and larger current government body of Sudan. The conflict is also destined to stay internal, with the only regional effects revolving around the people being displaced into neighboring states. This regional problem is also the sole reason the UN is looking to get involved, as there are millions of humans in need of aid and protection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
