Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has held several discussions with Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman in an attempt to put an end to the invasion of Ukraine and bring back prisoners of war from Russia. According to a statement from Zelenskyy’s website, the two men have discussed a Ukrainian plan to put an end to the conflict and Zelenskyy has thanked MBS for his role, even as Riyadh has remained closely aligned with Russia on energy policies through countries that are aligned with OPEC agreements. Zelenskyy’s trip to Saudi Arabia occurred just as Kiev’s forces were slowly being pulled back from Eastern Ukraine, due to Russia’s advantage with having more troops and weapon supplies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This article is very interesting because of the measures the leader of Ukraine is trying to make in order to end the conflict that Russia has instigated in Ukraine. This is important for Saudi Arabia as well since they are highly dependent on oil and the sanctions imposed on Russia may make it difficult for the economy for Saudi Arabia, affecting its national interests. So, it would make sense that the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia would want to work with President Zelenskyy to put an end to the invasion in Ukraine since Saudi Arabia is one of the biggest producers and exporters in the oil industry in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In International Relations, we have discussed the collective goods problem where states would have shared or conflicting interests. We have also discussed reciprocity behavior where states operate on a mutual benefit and cooperate with each other. Ukraine and Saudi Arabia have developed an interest in working together to stop Russia from attacking Ukraine. We have also talked about economic IGOs, which are dedicated to free trade, tariff reduction, monetary cooperation, development and banking.
