The trading of fire marks an increase in hostilities, with both sides exchanging artillery and rocket fire across the border. Israel’s military responded to provocation by hitting hezbollah positions, the group responded with drone and missile strikes. This trading of fire shows how unstable the region is, it has really intensified by ongoing political instability and the rising for future conflict. Experts say that continued escalation could lead to a border confrontation, showing the great need for diplomatic efforts to lessen the tensions of the two countries.

The article is important because of how the middle east works. The walkie-talkie attacks have created instability within Hezbollah and hamas because of the concern of where the next attack is going to be, as well as taking out a layer of the organizations. The walkie-talkie/pager attacks have caused confusion inside the groups because of them only using walkie-talkies or pagers within the organization. This could cause instability within the organization leading to possibly more erratic behavior. hezbollah is worried about where the next attack will come from and because of the walkie-talkie attacks they are going to be more cautious about where they buy their equipment.

The groups involved in this conflict are Israel, Hezbollah, Lebanon, and Iran. Israel will respond by asking it’s allies like the U.S. for support in countering the Hezbollah attacks and for the U.S. to help strengthen their military. Hezbollah is hoping to gain support from other groups and the public in Lebanon and the region, this would increase their chances of winning and could possibly change the outcome of this conflict. Lebanon’s public could vary in decisions on what to do they could either support Hezbollah and their cause or they could try for peace and the reduction of attacks for the public’s safety.

Israel and Hezbollah have been going back and forth for stability in the middle east. Hezbollah is trying to gain stability by attacking Israel because of what they gain from doing so, if Hezbollah wins against Israel then that means the group will gain influence over the region, domestic support and political leverage over other country’s. Israel is fighting Hezbollah with the intentions of finally gaining stability in their region and with the intentions of making an example out of them so that they can focus on what’s really needed in Israel.

link to article:https://www.nytimes.com/2024/09/19/world/middleeast/israel-hezbollah-missiles-pager-walkie-talkie-attack.html This article talks about the rising tensions between Israel and hezbollah following recent attacks involving pagers and walkie-talkies.
