The Yemen Houthis have claim that they shot have shot down an US made MQ-9 Reaper spy drone along the red sea corridor, but the United States has said it’s investigating if they did shoot an American drone. This is not the first time the Houthis have shot down us MQ-9 Reaper drones as early as 2017 they have been shooting surface to air missiles provided by Iran to attempt and destroy these drones. With some being successful, each drone costs about 30 million dollars and comes from tax payer dollars. The aggressive force from the Houthis is an attempt to stop the attacks from the Israelis on Hamas in Gaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The attacks from the Houthis are significant as they just struck down something that belonged to the US during an period with already terrible relations in that region as the red sea corridor moves trillions of dollars worth of trade each year. I think this is very unnecessary as in the past the have already seized many ships and killed sailors but shooting down an drone using an surface to air missiles should not be used. I think this could lead to worse tensions between the US and Yemen, along with Iran as they are providing the missiles that the Houthis are using.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the tensions in the middle east both countries could resolve the attacks and the Houthis could pay for the damages for the drone and promise to no longer attack the drones although that is extremely unlikely as they are spy drones trying to gather intelligence on Yemen. The more likely option would be that the Houthis will continue to be aggressive to the US and attack more drones and the US will continue to spy and bomb Yemen like they did in October with B-2 Stealth Bombers. With us talking about theories in class the Yemen Houthis have a more Realist Theory as their perspective as their is no world leader and government and they are on more aligned with offensive realism as they seek to expand and to gain more land and more power seeking nation. The Houthis have a view to gain the most power and to achieve security for the people and is more on the offensive as a nation rather than being defensive since they aren’t a major power house and don’t need to maintain the status quo. The offensive nature of the Houthis will most likely lead to many more conflict in the future as they seek to gain control and power from the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
