The prosecution has indicted Farhad Shakeri, 51, of Iran, on multiple charges, including murder-for-hire and conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, among other charges, as the mastermind of the assassination plan. All charges totaled, and if extradited to the U.S. and convicted, he could face up to 100 years in prison. According to prosecutors, Shakeri hired two men to help carry out the plan that involved killing an Iranian dissident, two Jewish Americans, and President-Elect Trump. Shakeri I was told by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp, of which he is a member, to focus on Trump and drop the three other targets. It is important to note that the IRGC is a designated foreign terrorist organization.

This is the secon confirmed instants that Iran has tried to kill President-elect Trump. President-elect Trump has taken a very hard stance against Iran and its regime prompting trouble in relations between the two states. Iran and the U.S. have almost always had bad relations with one another going back to the Iranian Revolution. Not to mention Trump has been quite vocal about how he has handled Iran in the past. Clearly, Trump poses some kind of threat to Iran, although not nessicarily as President as Shakeri was order to wait to carry out the assassination after the election, thinking that Trump would lose and It would be easier to kill him then. Noe that Trump will be back in the Presidential Office it is possible that he could pick up more aggression toward Iran and impose sanction or other means of checking Iranian power.

The two main stakeholders in this event are Iran and the U.S. Iran, which could try to deny this allegation, which probably wouldn’t work as there is documented evidence and clear connections. Iran could own up to the assertion and extradite Shakeri to the U.S. to stand trial. Either way, Iran will not come out of this looking good. The U.S. has already responded by opening a case and asking Shakeri to stand trial. It probably won’t go any further now, but once the Offices change in January, the U.S. could become more aggressive in its prosecution of Shakeri.

In tearms of national interest, Iran probably wants to avoid confronting this for as long as possible. With the Supreme Leader of Iran becoming more ill, which could open a power vacuum soon, Iran is probably not ready or able to deal with an overseas conflict like this. As for the U.S., it is undoubtedly her national interest to go after Shakeri, the IRGC, and anyone else involved in the assassination plot. Not only to provide a show of strength but because the plot included the killing of three American citizens. It has become a Homeland Security issue, and America must first protect its citizens. Letting an attempted assassination attempt on American citizens slide is not an option.

Link to Article:https://www.dailywire.com/news/feds-disrupt-iranian-assassination-plot-on-trump On November 8, 2024, it was reported that a second alleged Iranian assassination plot for President-Elect Trump had been deterred by Federal Law enforcement.
