The journey to Crete is very tremulous but many migrants are willing to make the journey to escape the hardships they face at home. Crete officials have also made statements saying they are expecting more migrants making the trip. The journey over isn’t cheap though, migrants would have to pay roughly $9,800 USD. Greece is a key entry point for people from the Middle East, Africa and Asia seeking a better life in the European Union.

People are running from poverty, prosecution, abuse, and much more. Places like Crete now are places where these people are running too. This is hard for the people arriving but also the people who are living in the area. Luckily the Crete authorities are trying to find ways to help the migrants but also keep peace in their own homes. With more migrants coming in there will be lasting impacts like increase of resource use and decrease of housing. There will probably be more conflicts before things get better but maybe there can be a way these migrants can have a fresh start but maybe that’s being too optimistic.

Authorities on Crete have spoken out on a possible project that works with authorities of neighboring states. The project would make it easier for migrants to come into different states and possibly find better living situations. This program could help local businesses and try to better the economy. There is no way it will be easy but is better then there being no regulation or ways to work things out.

In class there are discussion about liberalism, a little bit. It is pretty much the opposite of realism. I think there is hope that maybe some people do believe that there can still be good that comes out of dark situations like this. There is also the realism view that it won’t work at all and the world is completely selfish. But I like to believe there is still good.

https://apnews.com/article/greece-migrants-crete-boats-libya-mediterranean-africa-5f4572034481cd170100c846d2e20b4d This past October over 230 migrants fled North Africa and arrived in Crete after 2 days of travel.
