The Yazidi group is a minority that recide in northern Iraq. In 2014, ISIS overran the Sinjar area, where many of the Yazidi group resided in. Overall, I am glad that the 36 of the survivors have been rescued and set free from the slavery they had to endure for three years. Though slavery is still an issue we face today in our society, I believe that no one should have to go through that. Just because the Yazidi are part of a minority in the region, it does not give the right for the majority to decide to capture them and treat them as slaves. Also, I find it very saddening that there are still around 1,500 estimated women and girls still being held captive by ISIS. All the Yazidi people are trying to do is live their lives peacefully as they practice their religion, which is viewed as worshiping the devil to those part of the Islamic State. I feel something must be done to free the rest of the survivors. It is not fair to the Yazidi people to pay for practicing their religion. Many are enduring countless amounts of pain and suffering at the hands of ISIS members all because they are viewed as an inferior group of people. I know that in that part of the world, religion plays a major part of society and their government but I still feel that everyone should have the right to choose which religion want to practice and if it is different they should not be punished for that choice. I hope that soon slavery is not a problem we have but for that to occur people will have to stop viewing certain groups as inferior groups and start viewing them as equals. There also needs to be more stability in the region. Right now, all the fighting and conflict is taking its toll on both the region and the people. Many cities are being left destroyed and wrecked because of the airstrikes and constant battling. The civilians in the region are also paying the price for the conflicts in the region. Many people are losing their lives due to airstrikes that hit the cities where they are still being inhabited by civilians. I know that something must be done to stop ISIS especially since they are holding people captive and treating them as worthless slaves, but I feel that we need to find a way in which less lives are lost. The civilians should not have to pay the price for the crimes of the Islamic State members. Though I am not sure how this can be stopped since easing up on attacks will only let ISIS gain more support and cause more conflict on the worn out region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Out of my four articles this week, I found the one on the Yazidi slaves the most interesting.
