Israel has been accused of using white phosphorus on a strip in southern Lebanon, making land uninhabitable. White phosphorus is very deadly and is banned when used in populated areas during war. More than 918 hectares have been hit with the white phosphorus ammunition since October, 2023, according to Lebanese researchers and many activist groups. White phosphorus is ignited once it reaches oxygen at a certain temperature and rains down burning vegetation, buildings and people. Israel claims that they have only used it to create a smokescreen on the battlefield but human rights groups disagree and claims that Israel has used it over populated areas. In the areas that the phosphorus is used it is advised to stay away and that’s what the people that live in the areas affected have been told. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think it is very cruel for white phosphorus to be used as there are better ways to fight like using regular bombs, the white phosphorus can be very damaging for people and the environment and for the people that get hit by the phosphorus it burns right through your skin. The impacts are going to be long last as the chemicals won’t go away for a period of time and will impact plant growth in the area and will be dangerous to most likely inhale or be around. I understand that Israel is trying to defend themselves while attacking for their own sake, but the better way would be traditional rockets rather than chemical weapons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both Israel and Lebanon can come to an agreement to have a ceasefire although it is looking likely how long that is going to last. Israel can stop using the white phosphorus which would be the better solution as it harms less of the innocent civilians. The international community refrains from using chemical weapons as it violates international humanitarian law. If both parties involved came to a ceasefire then the problem would be solved but that is going to be very challenging. With Israel wanting control of the region and having a realist view of being the most powerful they obviously aren’t going to refrain from using weapons even if it goes against international law. They are going to do what’s best for the Israeli people and for Netanyahu’s view. That really comes down to Netanyahu as he’s the one deciding on whether to attack or not to use the weapons. The environment is really a Hobbesian environment as they want power and security of the region as Lebanon is a threat to Israel. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
