The foreign ministers of the leading European nations, France, Germany, Italy, and Britain, have come out in support of an Arab-backed plan for the reconstruction of Gaza, which would cost $53 billion but avoid the displacement of Palestinians. This plan had been rejected by both Israel and Donald Trump, who’s plan for Gaza included displacing Palestinian citizens. The plan, which would have Gaza be rebuilt over the course of 5 years, includes Gaza being temporarily governed by a committee of independent experts as well as bringing in the expertise of international peacekeepers. This proposal aims to combat the concern that the fragile first six week phase of Gaza’s ceasefire deal could collapse. It is unclear and unsure when the next phase of the ceasefire, the full withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, will take place, but this plan aims at properly reconstructing and rehabilitating Gaza and its citizens. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, there has been an increasing rift developing between the United States and its Western allies, due in part to the way in which Trump has responded to the war in Ukraine. Additionally, the current conflict in the Middle East has further divided the United States from the remaining Western countries, as the U.S. has continuously supported Israel and essentially funded a genocide, while countries like France and Britain are attempting to reconstruct Gaza for the benefit of the Palestinian people. It is likely that this plan for reconstruction will continue to fuel the ever growing division between the US and other Western countries, since each side disagrees on how to deal with Gaza, and a plan of this size won’t be possible to carry out without every countries’ help and agreement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donald Trump has a firm and somewhat stubborn idea of how Gaza and the Palestinian people should be dealt with, and it is unlikely that he will agree to the Arab-backed plan that European leaders are supporting. Because of this, the leaders of France, Germany, Italy, and Britain will have to make a choice out of two options; agree to Trump’s plan in order to ensure peace between the United States and Europe, or continue to support their plan for the reconstruction of Gaza, despite Trump and his, likely negative, response to this choice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This particular event has to do with levels of conflict, specifically which level of conflict this event belongs in. The conflict between Palestine and Israel is interstate, since it is defined as “interstate or regional issues dealing with resources, boundary disputes, or ethnic makeup”. However, it can also be viewed on the global level, because, although the conflict itself does not “deal with polarity and the possible transfer of power or new world order or ideology”, it is definitely influencing and making waves in the global community, particularly among the United States and its European allies. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
