According to a spokesperson from the Syrian Ministry of Energy, Syria has suffered a nationwide power outage due to malfunctions at several points in the national grid. Technical teams were addressing the issues that struck on Tuesday night. There has been no initial indication that an attack was the cause. The director of the General Establishment for Electricity Transmission and Distribution, engineer Khaled Abu Dai, told the state news agency SANA: \u201cThe nationwide power outage in Syria is the result of a technical fault in the electrical system. Efforts are under way to repair the problem and restore power as quickly as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is important because it shows how Syria is facing infrastructure problems after their independence and how they may lack the funding or governmental cohesion in order to adequately resolve any problems they may face. This also shows how external forces could be interfering with Syria’s infrastructure in order to bring more chaos to the region and by extension a more malleable government. Some countries such as Turkiye would be interested in destabilizing Syria for their own benefit and gaining a foothold in the region for further operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is important to what we learned in class because it shows just how important resources like infrastructure, energy, and money are to creating a functioning and survivable state. After having had a revolution and overthrowing the previous government, Syria is trying to create a stable and long lasting state for its people. This power outage is a small setback for them creating the solid governance that they are aiming for. Ultimately I believe that this new government will prove to be extremely successful and bring together the different groups that reside in the nation and bring the nation forward to prosper in the future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
