On Tuesday, May 6th, Netanyahu’s security cabinet approved an expanded military operation in the enclave as a plan to “conquer” the territory. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the population of Gaza will be displaced to the South, following the military’s claim that it would mobilize tens of thousands of reservists. Netanyahu had stated that “there will be a movement of the population to protect them”, but less than 24 hours later at least 20 people were killed in an Israeli strike on a school compound housing displaced people. Additionally, Netanyahu has stated that if a hostage deal is not reached while Trump is in the Middle East, Israel will move forward with its plan, “Gideon’s Chariots”, with the goal of subduing Hamas and releasing all hostages, reiterating that the main focus is to free all Israeli hostages. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If they want to prevent any more Palestinians from being killed, it is possible that Hamas could decide to release all hostages in order to stop the deaths. However, this would only be successful if the reason for this genocide truly is the hostages, which is likely not the case. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This conflict as a whole relates back to the topic of social cleavages, specifically coinciding cleavages. In this instance, religion plays a large role in creating and aggravating the conflict occurring between Palestine and Israel.
