A timeline<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The raids on the maternity hospital in al-Tah killed an elderly woman who was an employee of the hospital, in the first civilian death in air strikes in Idlib province since May,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to the medical charity UOSSM, which has provided equipment to the maternity hospital, the woman killed was a cleaner in the facility and other medical staff were wounded.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement distributed to journalists, the charity said two sets of attacks hit the maternity hospital, setting fuel-storage tanks on fire and leaving its incubator room &#8220;totally destroyed&#8221;.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"imagecontainer item\">\n<table class=\"image\" border=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/mritems\/Images\/2017\/9\/10\/cd82c97388674057a47b139c76681fda_6.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"caption\"><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Syrian government-affiliated Central Military Media outlet acknowledged the opposition offensive in Idlib and said that forces responded with intensive aerial bombardment and shelling, killing a number of fighters.<\/p>\n<p>UOSSM condemned the attacks and said that &#8220;systematic attacks on hospitals are back despite de-escalation deals&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Idlib is mainly controlled by Hay&#8217;et Tahrir al-Sham, an alliance of anti-government groups formed in January and linked to al-Qaeda.<\/p>\n<p>It is led by Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, formerly known as\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/people\/al-nusra-front.html\" target=\"_self\">al-Nusra Front<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ReadMoreContentSeparator\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2017\/08\/white-helmets-medics-killed-syria-idlib-170812211919453.html\" target=\"_self\">READ MORE: Seven White Helmets medics killed in Syria&#8217;s Idlib<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The SOHR said the air raids were in retaliation for the killing of 19 soldiers when Hay&#8217;et Tahrir al-Sham launched an attack on government forces in the northern Hama countryside.<\/p>\n<p>The fighting comes just days after\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/iran.html\" target=\"_self\">Iran<\/a>, Russia and Turkey announced they would jointly police the de-escalation zone in Idlib and parts of adjacent Hama and Latakia provinces.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/russia.html\" target=\"_self\">Russia<\/a>\u00a0has already deployed military police to the other three de-escalation zones &#8211;
