The deal is viewed as a positive advance, though the specific modalities—the details of how inspections will proceed—were not disclosed. This agreement arrives amid pressure from European powers—the so-called E3 (France, Britain, Germany)—who have triggered the “snapback” mechanism to reimpose previously lifted sanctions under the 2015 nuclear deal unless Iran restores full inspections, addresses its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, and engages in talks with the U.S. Reuters+1AP News. Iran explicitly warned that the agreement would be considered null and void if any “hostile actions” occur—including the reimposition of UN sanctions or other aggressive moves Reuters+1. This reflects Tehran’s attempt to reconcile its new domestic legislation, which mandates inspection approval by its Supreme National Security Council, with its international obligations under the Non-Proliferation Treaty.

A growing concern in the Middle East is that Iran is increasing its funding in their nuclear weapons program. The Iranian government is extremely hostile towards the Israeli government and vise versa. Constant strikes earlier this year from both sides have escalated tensions between the two countries. This comes as international concern for the Iranian Nuclear program increases with their efforts to rid Israel of the region. In my opinion, the IAEA intervening with inspections is a positive because it dulls down the intensity of the region and bias within both the Israeli and Iranian governments. Additionally, it provides the UN with adequate information on the progression of the nuclear weapons program.

Both the UN and the United States should respect the interests of both foreign governments whilst also maintaining peace and making sure things do not escalate. The Iranian government has vowed to annihilate Israel off the globe and funds multiple terror groups that attack Israel. Iran logistically should reconsider its hostilities as Russia and China, their two major allies, are wrapped up in foreign entanglements with Ukraine and southern Asia respectively. Other governments like the Qatari and Saudi Arabian government should withhold negative statements about the Iranian regime as to not further provoke any further escalation of tensions. Additionally, preventing more conflict by withdrawing American forces from the Middle East would just boost sentiment in America and in all countries in the Middle East, except Israel.

A connection this has to class is the Iranian influence in the region and the diplomacy between Saudi Arabia, Iran, and the UN. The Saudi-Iranian cold war has been going on since the Shah was ousted in the Iranian revolution. The Iranian government is Shia and the Saudi Arabian government is predominantly Sunni. Both countries are autocratic regimes and aren’t democratic; however, the United States sides with Saudi Arabia because of its open policy towards the west and its diplomatic/security interests in the region. Saudi Arabia has funded operations and co-operated with American soldiers to take down foreign terrorist groups funded by the Iranian government. Proxy wars have cripple the countries of the Middle East and have directly caused thousands of casualties. This rivalry is continuing to become apparent all over the world, with global leaders such as China, Russia, The United States, UK, and France taking sides.

Link to article: https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/iran-iaea-announce-agreement-resuming-nuclear-inspections-2025-09-09/ On September 9, 2025, Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reached a framework agreement—negotiated in Cairo between IAEA chief Rafael Grossi and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi—to resume nuclear inspections, including at sites damaged during June U.S. and Israeli military strikes Reuters+1.
