This was publicly displayed on Monday as Israeli Prime Minister Benjiman Netanyahu and U.S Secretary of State Marco Rubio stood strongly together in Jerusalem, downplaying initial U.S disapproval after Israels actions. Although, U.S President Donald Trump made it clear of his displeasure with Israel after the unilateral strike on their other close partner, Qatar. The Trump Administration plans to conduct diplomatic visits in Qatar in the coming days, so as to ease tensions between the two U.S allies. At the same time, Netanyahu and Rubio both agree that for this conflict in Gaza to end, Hamas must be taken out and all hostages must be released, “there will be no peace in this region because they are not agents of peace. They are agents of barbarism,”(Rubio, AP News).

This consensus between the U.S and Israel prioritizes personal military goals, over an immediate end to suffering through cease fire. In addition, the U.S visit to Jerusalem, hand in hand with Israel, is also in preparation for the upcoming UN General Assembly meeting during which many member states are planning to recognize Palestine as a sovern state, despite U.S-Israel backlash. The U.S’s commitment to Israel sacrifices their legitimacy within international organizations such as the UN, with strong moral disapproval of Israel’s actions growing. Their diplomatic involvement will make it hard for the U.S to “go back” and thus, the Trump Administration is controlling Israel to an extent so as to maintain economic and strategic influence without completely destroying their soft power advantages. The disapproval of Israels hard-power strikes on surrounding middle eastern countries such as Qatar and Lebanon exemplifies the moral sacrifice and international cost that comes with utilizing hard power.

source: Israel and US show unified front as international anger grows over airstrikes | AP News In light of growing international unrest after Israeli strikes on Qatar, the US-Isreal alliance still holds strong.
