Potential contributors include Turkey, Indonesia, and Azerbaijan; no European or British troops involved. The force aims to manage security, enabling Israeli withdrawal while Israel maintains a buffer zone. Britain advises on decommissioning Hamas weapons, drawing from Northern Ireland precedents, starting with heavy arms. The plan supports a Palestinian state encompassing the West Bank and East Jerusalem, with vocalized support from the UK. Tony Blair, former UK Prime Minister, is expected on a Trump-chaired “board of peace” overseeing Palestinian technocrats. A Cairo conference will seek over $67b for reconstruction. The ICJ may soon rule against Israel for failing aid obligations in Gaza. The Palestinian Authority is reforming, including education curricula, amid ongoing occupation challenges.

This idea of a peace board is a global effort towards resolving the conflict between Palestine and Israel, and addressing Palestine’s status of sovereignty. Although these conflicts are occurring in the middle east, this is very relevant to people all over the world, especially US citizens. The Israel-Palestine conflict has plagued both populations of the territories involved, and if it develops into a larger-scale conflict, could involve external political actors, which includes the US. Given that Israel is believed to possess nuclear weapons, if the war continues, it could encourage more countries to develop nuclear weapons in means of protecting themselves from the possibility of attack. This attempt at intervening by the UN could lead to a potential end to the conflict. The UN’s goal for facilitating reconstruction will support peace in the region, rehabilitate governments, and provide aid to the citizens who have suffered during the war.

Stakeholders and political actors could respond to this event by declaring their views on the matter. The peace board requires support in order to be successful, and many countries have expressed their support and/or their perspectives. Aside from support, the stabilization effort needs commitment from members involved, there is talk of potential contributors but consistent support will lead to a definite solution.

This event represents concepts we discuss in international relations such as alliances, sovereignty, anarchy, and realism. All of these contribute to both the root of the problem, as well as how it can be eliminated. Problems arise due to Anarchy and lack of sovereignty, which can be explained through the realist theory. The realist theory explains why countries fight over territory, and how it is valuable to them in order to obtain power and control. There is no hegemon in the middle east to conduct operations and encourage compliance, which makes it difficult to determine who has rights over the territory. This dispute can be solved through alliances cooperating to achieve peace. These are examples of how the UN is aiming to de-escalate tensions between Israel and Palestine.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/oct/18/egypt-expected-to-lead-global-stabilisation-force-in-gaza-say-diplomats

Diplomats indicate Egypt is posed to lead a UN-mandated international stabilization effort in Gaza, backed by US and Europe, with robust powers akin to Haiti’s anti-gang operations.
