Yet, this conflict has begun to spread past these nations and into neighboring regions. Iran has made a conscious effort in targeting U.S. and Israel allies such as Kenya, Egypt, Dubai, and Kuwait. These moves pressure the U.S. into taking more aggressive actions towards resolving the conflict and protecting these ally regions. Instead, the U.S. remains on their bi-partition route through their recently developed ceasefire proposal, but this proposition has made no headway. The Strait of Hormuz is the main reason for this. In the proposal, Trump included that Iran must loosen their grip over the Strait and stop threatening global shipping along with the ceasefire. Protecting the Strait is incredibly important for global prosperity as over 20% of the world’s oil is transferred through Hormuz. Unfortunately, these terms could not be agreed upon. The U.N. is holding talks on how to move forward through this war, yet no breakthrough has been reached. Meanwhile, casualties grow and external stakeholders begin to experience hardships as a result of the conflict. A German company, Hapag-Lloyd, is now paying $40 to $50 million weekly due to the Strait of Hormuz shut down, as they still have a crew of over 150 members stranded in the middle of it. As for other regions, China will soon face oil deficits as Iran is their primary source of oil. Without this oil, China risks the continuation of their exports, the main proprietor of their economy. In addition, Russia also sources their drone batteries from Iran. If their access to this software is skewed, Russia will have to find new ways to sustain their presence in Ukraine. Together, this conflict has scalable repercussions across the globe that are resulting in economic and social struggles.
