Nowhere is safe from these criminals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"blockquote-writer\">ABDULRAHMAN, LOCAL RESIDENT<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Al Masirah, a TV channel run by the Houthis &#8211; a group of rebels who control Saada province, the capital Sanaa, as well as other parts of central Yemen &#8211;\u00a0confirmed the death toll.<\/p>\n<p>Abdulrahman, who declined to give his surname, said there were no Houthi fighters in the area when the attack happened.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The air strike completely decimated the market,&#8221;\u00a0he told Al Jazeera.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Because of repeated air strikes and mortar fire from the Saudi border, many Yemeni workers have resorted to sleeping in their shops as it&#8217;s too dangerous to be on the roads at night.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Anything that moves is at the threat of being bombed,&#8221; he added. &#8220;Nowhere is safe from these criminals.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition did not respond to Al Jazeera&#8217;s request for comment.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-also-read article-embed-tb-block article-embedded-card \">\n<div class=\"topic-label\">READ MORE<\/div>\n<h4><a class=\"article-embed-title\" href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/indepth\/features\/2017\/08\/saudi-arabia-war-yemen-strategic-failure-170823072854582.html\">Saudi Arabia&#8217;s war in Yemen &#8216;a strategic failure&#8217;<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<p>Saada, a Houthi stronghold, has been repeatedly targeted by Saudi-led aerial bombardment since a coalition of Arab states joined the war in March 2015.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are deeply saddened to hear of the reports coming from Saada today and our UN partners are verifying the incident,&#8221;\u00a0Shabia Mantoo, a spokesperson for the UN&#8217;s refugee agency\u00a0in Yemen (UNHCR),\u00a0told Al Jazeera.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With the conflict prolonging in Yemen, we are seeing hostilities intensify, humanitarian needs accumulate and civilians bearing the brunt.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The war in Yemen,\u00a0the Arab region&#8217;s<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ye.undp.org\/content\/yemen\/en\/home\/countryinfo.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0poorest\u00a0<\/a>country, started in 2014 after\u00a0Houthi fighters seized control of Sanaa and began pushing south towards the country&#8217;s third-biggest city, Aden.<\/p>\n<p>Concerned by the rise of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/subjects\/houthis.html\">Houthis, <\/a>believed to be backed by regional rival\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/iran.html\">Iran<\/a>, Saudi Arabia and a coalition of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/subjects\/sunni.html\">Sunni<\/a>\u00a0Arab states launched an intervention in 2015 in the form of a massive air campaign aimed at reinstalling President Adb-Rabbu Mansour Hadi&#8217;s government.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/organisations\/un.html\">United Nations<\/a>, the number of air raids per month is now three times higher than last year, and monthly reports of armed clashes are up 50 percent.<\/p>\n<p>More than 10,000 people<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2017\/01\/death-toll-yemen-conflict-passes-10000-170117040849576.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0have been killed<\/a>\u00a0and at least 40,000 wounded, mostly from Saudi-led air strikes.<\/p>\n<p>The Saudi-led air campaign and subsequent land, air and naval blockade have created a humanitarian disaster.
