South and Central Asia seems to have many similar issues as what is found in the Middle East and Africa. Many of these social issues are pretty consistent around LDC’s (Lesser developed countries). One of the main ones of these social issues is women’s rights. This is such a huge problem because these countries are generally LDC and that means they haven’t industrialized yet and are still living in an antiquated mindset. This means that many believe women can only be useful in the household and have to produce a son for their husbands. This results in lack of control over their own bodies and many times the husbands force them to produce very large families. This can be harmful to the women and it produces huge problems for the country as a whole. Since survival rates are higher and higher the children produced don’t die off as they used to which means there are recent and huge spikes in population in these countries. One of the main culprits is India. This huge population boom makes it hard for the countries to actually support these people because they lack the infrastructure and production means to feed and transport them.

Education on women’s rights and having laws to give them more control of their bodies could help prevent these issues. It would also allow  women to feel safer coming forward with sexual assault issues which are rampant in these countries. If the countries with these issues can survive through these population booms and the older generations pass that leaves younger and more forward thinking generations which can overturn unfair laws and take a step in the right direction for women’s rights. This is also something these countries need to look into now or else they could doom the future generations. The holding back of progress of these simple social rights can have  much larger ramifications for the population and create an environment that the government is unable to sustain with their resources at hand.

The reason countries haven’t adapted to these seemingly obvious changes is that the older generations are in control. They simply lived in a different time and have a different mindset about these issues. Though issues like sexual assault will always be around hopefully when a new and more reform minded generation comes to make the laws these issues can come to the forefront of debates. As of now they can easily be slid under the rug or even have the victims punished over some archaic laws.
