Even though Nepal’s leftist alliance group won the elections last month with a sweeping victory, the government has yet to transition powers. This is creating much upset in the nation and is posing a serious threat to the democracy in Nepal. Many voters were hoping that the leftist alliance group could bring stability to the political gridlock and long impoverished nation. Critics have accused Deuba’s party of deliberately stalling for time to possibly break up the leftist coalition. If and when the leftist group comes to power, they have yet to form a concrete agenda and instead relied solely on illusive slogans of development and prosperity to become elected. Not only has Nepal had over 10 government changes in the past few decades, but they are still recovering from an earthquake in 2015 that left over 9,000 dead. This long history of instability weighs heavily on its people and surrounding countries as well. Many hope that a new transition of power could be the solution but it still looks like they have a doubtful and turbulent road ahead.
