In this article posted by NDTV it talks about how the Prime Minister of Nepal is looking at certain deals with China pertaining to railroads and just overall better relations. Nepal has had to play a balancing act between its two neighbors India and China. The railroad that was mentioned had some working parts with it like the fact that China would have to extend its rail to Shigatse and then Kyirong in Tibet. Then from Tibet they could be able to easily connect it to Nepal which can easily expand to India. This is seen as a possible gateway for easier and improved trading between China and India that could revolutionize trade in Asia. With Nepal being the gateway for trade between these two very populated and productive countries it could definitely help improve its economy and the relationship between these three countries. But if China starts to have an open trade relationship with India then they might be able to get access to their ports and be able to acquire access to the Indian Ocean and start trading at its ports. This would have to be controlled and it would be a difficult situation for the United States if China was able to get a base in India at a southern port and start developing more advanced naval fleets. With the United States having close ties to India because they are another democratic country their trade with China wouldn’t be a problem but if they were to start developing a military presence then that would raise extra tensions between not only the United States and China but also the United States and India.
