Malala Yousafzai was shot in the head by a member of the Taliban for being an advocate for girls education in 2012. Last week was the first time in four years that she had returned to her home country of Pakistan since the incident. At the age of 14 being able to speak out in your country about the flaws and the change that needs to happen in your country regarding education shows the courage and bravery that she possess. She truly is an inspiration and she helped give voiced to those who felt silenced and gave hope to young girls across the globe that are fighting for education. The Taliban tried to silence her with a bullet to the head but she emerged as an even stronger symbol of hope because she was able to survive this attack and go on to advocate for education. To me she is a huge inspiration, such a strong individual that has gone on to do amazing things. Her legacy carries on through the Malala Fund in which she said has invested $6 million for schools and books and uniforms for schoolchildren. This will help benefit the next generation in Pakistan as they grow and learn because they will have the resources to help them learn and become self sufficient and successful people. To look further on what this could mean for Pakistan and other countries where females aren’t educated it means that people are starting to speak up and that change is coming. Her will and perseverance will only help these future generations on their path to a better education. Pakistan is also now being forced into the public eye and is now under more of a microscope especially under the lens of education. When they are home to the youngest person to ever win a Noble Peace Prize you get some recognition, but when she is shot there you attract even more media. This could also be a factor in that now the country won’t stop her from educating those you never knew how to use their voice because they are in the public eye.
