The Iranian nuclear program has become a more present issue as the the years of development have progressed. Iran has their back up against a wall with nowhere to go, besides build nuclear weapons. The strategy that they play is nerve wracking for many surrounding countries, as well as the countries that depend on their trade negotiations with Iran. The United States is plenty capable of taking care of this ordeal altogether, but this will only bring more tensions between us and Iran, also the other countries that depend on Iran.
Recently, Iran has been struck down from international trade deals with many other countries, as of now there are eight countries that permit the importing of Iranian oil. The deal between the eight countries allowed to import petroleum products from Iran, are they can import oil but only at a significantly less amount than before, also they have to have the intent of completely shutting off oil imports from Iran altogether. These countries are seen as United States’ allies such as Italy, India, Japan, and South Korea. All are large powers that depend on oil being one of the key factors to allow survival throughout their countries. This deal will permanently hurt the economy within Iran, which should force them to reevaluate their intentions with nuclear weapons.
The United States applied these sanctions for Iran to constrict their growth and harmful influence on other states surrounding the country. Among these sanctions are for Iran to stop backing Yemen’s Houthi rebels who are opposing a US-supported air campaign which is led by Saudi Arabia. The main goal of the pressure on Iran is for them to dismiss their outlier activities within other countries, but there is no sign of letting up on the Iranian side. The Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei challenges these sanctions that have been renewed, by arguing the United States is declining in military strength and power. He continues to argue that the battle between Iran and the US has lasted for 40 years, and there has been no harmful effects that linger from any attempt to push Iran down.
