This week I focused primarily on what is happening in India. To continue on from what I talked about last week, the pollution. The pollution in India has risen to “severe” level pollution. In the capital of India, New Delhi, the smog covers the landscape. This was determined after the fireworks were set off at a festival in the city. Another article I read discussed the level of severity of the issue as well as the “elite dogs” and their privileges. The dogs are being held in areas closed off from the pollution, in order for them to have clean air to breath. I find this incredibly surprising because the human citizens of India are suffering the intoxicating pollution of the air, meanwhile a few handpicked special dogs get to breath in the most clean air around town. One of my other articles included the cause behind the pollution effect. Miners are tearing apart the hills surrounding the admired capital, New Delhi. This for one is taking down the somewhat barrier protecting the capital city from the creeping pollution, but it also causes an increase in pollution.
The United States has put so-called sanctions on Iran’s oil trade and limited the trade to eight countries. All of these countries have agreed to in the near future for go trading with Iran, the United States’ goal to isolate Iran from increased nuclear weapon production. One of the eight countries is India. India has agreed to trade oil with Iran for the meantime. India is one of Iran’s largest importing customers. Due to this we will wait and see how India’s economy and the global economy and energy production are affected by the halt of Iranian oil sales.
Aside from India, a woman in Pakistan was recently released from prison, where she was awaiting her death. In 2010 this woman was put in jail for blasphemy. I find this astonishing that the nation let her sit in jail for so long without releasing her.
