Recently, India sent up a new satellite into orbit, which is their largest and most advanced satellite, which weights 12,906 pounds. It was sent it up with help of a French rocket, and is said that it will provide internet access to many of the rural areas of India. Currently, “There are more than 440 million internet users in India, and the number is expected to double by 2022.” India has risen as a major power and this satellite is proof. Also, I believe India will continue to rise in power as their country gains more and more connectivity to the rest of the world, possibly becoming one of the dominant powers in the world in the near future.
In post-Taliban Afghanistan, the women’s soccer team was seen as a representation for the new freedoms for women. However, these women who were dying to get out on the field and play the sport have been abused by coaches and sporting officials. This issue has exploded over the passed couple of days, with both FIFA and Afghan Attorney General Office starting investigations on the matter. According to the BBC, “some of the key culprits, she claims, are powerful figures in Afghanistan with close links to government.” They use their position and wealth to get women positions on the team. This shows the corrupt nature of the area and how even after the fall of the Taliban Afghanistan is still extremely unstable.
Also, in Afghanistan, one of the Taliban’s most important commanders was killed in a U.S. air strike. The Taliban has said it was a major loss but it will not deter them from taking back Afghanistan. According to BBC, “Taliban insurgents control more territory in the country than at any time since 2014.” The Taliban is attempting to take back control of Afghanistan after they were overthrown. I believe that the U.S. may not put as much attention to the Taliban in the upcoming decades with the world’s main source of energy moving away from oil.
